Member Details
Steve Melendrez, Scientific Illustrator, has been involved with virtually every new exhibit and diorama since his arrival in 1990. Before he even received an elevator key, Steve began his Museum career by carving matrix from fossil shark teeth in preparation for the Sharks: Fact and Fantasy exhibit. He continued to hone his design and production skills on Genghis Khan: Treasures from Inner Mongolia, Whales: Masters of the Ocean Realm, Cats! Wild to Mild, Butterflies: In Living Color, and Tiniest Giants: Discovering Dinosaur Eggs. . His dinosaur embryo illustration appeared on MSNBC's website, the LA Times, and Discover Magazine. His illustrations appear in educational publications, scientific papers, Terra, Steve's career highlights include the Anasazi cliff dwelling in the Museum's Native American Hall, whale sculptures on display at the Leo Carrillo Beach Aquarium, bird and mammal sculptures at the Los Angeles Zoo, and dioramas at the Petersen Automotive Museum. Additionally, his work is archived at the JP Getty Museum.
